While not yet official, AT&T is getting close to announcing the Southern California market.

Does AT&T have plans to flip the 4G LTE switch for folks in southern California? We haven't heard anything, but while going about our business this morning we discovered a rather welcome surprise: 4G LTE was live! At least for now.
We did a video to test out the network's chops and found that the speeds were markedly faster than the 3G speeds we're used to in Orange County. Testing three different times on the LG Nitro HD showed relatively consistent download speeds of 7.53Mbps, 8.85Mbps and 8.5Mbps, while upload speeds were slightly inconsistent at 6.26, 2.13 and 4.24. Still, pretty quick speeds that, after using for a few minutes to browse the web, were blazing fast. Continue reading: http://tchno.be/sXgma6

  • Always announce what you are using to test the devices such as that mobile speed test software.

  • lol 8Mb/s on LTE, and 4 on HSPA+. Totally worth the upgrade.

  • wow...look at the differences in ping times lte vs. hspa+. when i tether my thunderbolt on vz i get 30-40 ms pings. handset is the same as yours, mid 60s to 80 depending on connection. interesting video. thanks.

  • @01Commenter10 i never say they did you dumb truck .. I asked a question you idiot i never said IT WAS 4g ....before you run your mouth re read it ..

  • @KnOcKOuTReFLeX did apple say the iPhone 4S was a 4G phone..?? NO they DID NOT

  • 8-9 down is absolutely horrible for a 4G LTE network.. TRUE 4G is capable of 100Mb.. so do the math. NOBODY in the US has true 4G LTE…!!

  • LTE is slow in America. I am a little shocked. Here is Japan I can get 21 down easy.

  • @sean1256 you are absolutley correct sir, AT&T customers move out of LTE area they have hspa+ to fall back on

  • The iphone 4S is not on HSPA+, it is on 3G, no comparison to any of AT&T devices that are on HSPA+, I have a Samsung Skyrocket with no LTE coverage here in Denver yet, currently get 10mbps on the down and close to the 3 range on the up. So if your connecting to LTE right now they may be throttling the speeds until the official launch

  • With an LTE network thats so new and no one using it ...seems pretty slow compare to verizon
