Why the HELL don't they lower the guide or install another one lower!!

That is one HELLUVA draught!! And a long way before the first rope guide!! Scary!!
At least you dont have choir pews to navigate here though... at Cricklade, you do!!
How long is the draught from floor to ceiling? And is there an intermediate chamber?

VERRY mighty,
they would be hard enough to ring with a NORMAL draft!! "/

Great place to learn to ring! Rang here in my early days (age 10/11) of ringing and had everything from wandering ropes to ropes round the neck. The treble and #2 are very difficult to handle, mainly due to the added weight of the 76ft long ropes, but like with any troublesome bell, you get used to it. I love ringing here, each Sunday morning at 8.45, then again on Monday evening at 7.30. Croston is a super little village, ideal for a stop-gap whilst on your way to Southport.
why have they got a guideframe so near the ceiling they may as well take it out

That's very true, to be honest, I'm not to certain. It does seem a bit bizare.

That is a long draft, the sallies don't even come anywhere close to the guides

I think it's 60ft. Well that's what I overheard anyway. They have a tendency to drop on you, which can be a little bit scary!
