There is the notion out there that the European Union is anti-democratic and even "hostile to freedom." These false and wrong notion about the European Union are from conspiracy theorists, but probably will be picked up by the Heritage Foundation/Brussels Journal/Libertas Europhobe types to wrongly and falsely attack the EU as "anti-democratic" and present themselves as "freedom fighters." These people are actually doing this NOW and this is nothing more than promoting old conspiracy theories about the European Union. We Europeanists must be prepared to be tagged as "anti-democratic" and "opposed to freedom."

The EU promoted and has promoted freedom fighters around the world, especially in in Serbia - and helped freedom fighters there remove Slobodan Milosevic and send him to the ICTY.

The truth is that while the EU promotes freedom and democracy around the world- the European Union is fully capable of keeping the peace at home without the US-NATO Atlantic system - and it has also addressed the perception of "democratic deficit" too. Those that are currently promoting the old Anglo-American Atlanticist system ignore the role the European Union plays at home and abroad...

  • The Power within is greater than the powers around you.

This is last thing they want you to know because knowing this will reduce their power to nothing.

  • a proposed conspiracy against Europe and the rest of world by soooooooo many people would be impossible to hide!

  • But its true. The eu is the new USSR and the fact that so many here in russia suffered under socialist policy is one of many reasons why russia will never join the EU.

  • Again - there is a night and day difference b/t the EU and USSR. It is either crackpot or ignorance to state that. As I said, where are the labor camps and gulags?

Human rights, human dignity, the rule of law, and social market capitalism are all respected in the EU. Also, the EU is for peaceful relations, (as in the Russia-Georgia conflict) while the Soviet system was aggressive and violent. Again, believing in the EU=USSR is absolute crackpot rubbish in light of the Community founders...

  • Why does she feel the need to defend the EU, is it because like all Europhiles she knows that they have got this far without the permission of the people, and every time they give the people a say they say NO. She is defending the indefencible, once countries give their people their say and the majority agree to commence on the Grand Project we can all get behind it, if not it is a lame duck, and will die like one.

    I want a referendum.

You don't understand what democracy is at all, democracy is all to do with nation states. Look at Belgium, look at Nigeria, look at Iraq. Democracy will not function without nation stations. You're repeating typical socialistic nonsense about a world where there are no longer allowed any difference between people, cultures and nations. A world where humans cease to be humans, a socialistic world. Read some books: This Perfect Day by Ira Levin for example.

You're calling the parlements of sovereign nations "regional" governments? Countries who always fought for their independence and their freedom are reduced to regional governments? We dont'want to be colonized by some totalitarian dystopia, we want our freedom back.

Europe is not one, and that is the strength of Europe.

We the Dutch don't want to be ruled by Germans, French of Britains. This fake parliament doesn't represent anyone or anything.

  • @marsnr1 (2/2) back their governments should their populations think differently.

Again, there is need for an EU parliament. Who would debate EU wide topics? Regional Governments? How many people would represent each Government as each represents a different sized population? say, 1 per million people? So, then you have 700 people representing the population of the EU, that's effectively a parliament! How else would you fairly do this while preventing bullying of smaller states.

  • @marsnr1 No, it would not be more democratic for your national parliament to vote on issues. Many nations are amalgamations of other nations (Look at the UK for example), and governments of larger countries would carry heavier weight than other Governments. For instance, Scotland would never have a voice at all if it's interests conflicted with the rest of the UK's as the UK is represented solely by one Government. But, MEP's answerable to EU populations would be less inclined to.... (1/2)

  • @marsnr1 That is such a miss-interpretation of Article 2 of Protocol No 6 that it doesn't even deserve a reply. But I'll give you one.

It does not bring back any death penalty. It prevents states from having the death penalty in any case with the only exception of allowing a state to implement measures, SHOULD IT WANT TO - ITS NOT FORCED TO, should the use of force be absolutely necessary in defence of someone, in escape of a lawfully arrested person, or in the case of a insurrection/riot.

  • @marsnr1 Have you evidence of such plan? If the Euro was never about a common coin, then what was it about? The states can still rule themselves. The main reason for the EU SLIPSTREAMING each nations laws is because most states have broadly similar laws, but slightly differing causing upheaval for EU wide trade.

Again, nations can leave when they want.

P.S. If laws passed by democratically elected MEPs isn't democratic, then what is??

Again, YOU COUNTRY CAN LEAVE IF IT WISHES!

  • @connchri

The EU parlement has nothing to do with democracy, it's also about taking power away from your own parliament and steadily replacing it. It would have been more democratic if your own parliament would vote about EU issues, there is no need at all for any EU parliament. But it all has to do with taking power away from sovereign states and useful idiots who believe in utopia's.

  • @marsnr1

I don't know the Engish word but "nations" are based upon something. Democracy can only work in nation states. That's why Belgium is such a failed country, and the EU want to make all Europe into one big Belgium.

Leaving the EU? You know that the deathpenalty is back in the Lisbon treaty and revolution against the EU is punishable by deah? The European High Court even considers criticizing the EU as a system an act of blasphemy.... it's punishable.

  • @connchri

Democracy is the system where sovereign states can rule themselves. The EU is against that system. You're no longer ruled by your own people, your ruled by other countries. Your veto is gone, you have nothing to stop any law coming from Brussel.

The plan was always to replace sovereign states by the EU, the euro was never pure about a comman coin, it was about getting political power to Brussel
