i read the book when i was in a library in 1 grade and humpty had a face and ears and looked jolly, then i found another one and he looked different, wtf? OH wait i know why!

@ogierepier Because the character falls of a wall and breaks or CRACKS. Children's books illustrated him as an egg, to show how he broke.

@gullivera thats true! Humpty Dumpty was a huge Cannon from Spanish armada period. It Was placed high overlooking a harbor on a sea wall defense. When fired the cannon fell from the wall to the rocks below and all the kings horsemen couldn't repair it. it became a folk legend and military lesson to secure the cannons in-place when firing... I learned this from a book on Military history read a few years ago...
