This is Mr. Carter's Elegy of 1943, which also exists in arrangements for piano and cello, string orchesta and string quartet. Hard to say which is most effective, but I've always liked the sound of the viola. When an older friend of mine, a violist, died a few years ago, I had this piece played on a classical radio request program as a tribute.
Pemi! You're a wonderful performer...very natural and such a gorgeous tone! I love the way you use your entire body to play the instrument...I've been working on that ...and I'm learning a lot by watching you....thanks bud!
It's strange... I was there, and listening to this after the fact, I'm getting a different experience out of listening to this piece entirely. So distracted by the physicality of the live performance... Both times I did find it beautiful.

schön sauber, wenn es dir recht ist, kannst du
