RIP Tsunami, 2000-2009. We will miss you.
Tsunami was a rogue degu who loved being scritched. We have had many of these personable pets, but none acted like he did. If you can get your degu to trust you, they will love being gently touched just like Tsunami. Good luck!
Our degus are seriously the cutest and best pets we have ever had. Recently we got them to calm down so we could scritch them and make them happy!

@n1les my degus only bite the cage if they are seriously bored and lack stimulation... remember they are naturally burrowing creatures who like to explore in the day - an empty cage depresses them... if you fill the cage with tunnels (to simulate a burrow), a large wheel, plenty of levels/toys then the cage-biting stops and they are much happier

I wish my degus were that social...they only run up to me when I shake their bag for food. They're such fatties, they clean out their giant bowl of food every day and I have to fill it back up again x.x

Hi I adopted three boy degus about two weeks ago, i think they're about 6 months old, but they dont afraid me when they r in their cage and they'll run to me when i near by, but not after they comes out of the cage, when i open the door they just try to run out and they wont let me touch them like how u touch ur degu in the video they ll just keep run around the room and i will have to catch them.... is it normal? need more time to tame them or???? cuz i really want to let them like ur degu= (

My baby Degu is acting so strange, first he eats the sand instead of having a bath in it plus he sleeps most of the day and bites the bars of his cage at night. What can i do to make him stop biting the wire? please help
n1les 1 year ago
Hey there.. nah, that's pretty normal for a degu. I wouldn't worry. Degus are very active creatures - they do eat sand much like birds .. you can't really stop them from biting the wire - it's a natural instinct. Ours does that sometimes - not as much as before, but we "pshhht" at her when she does so perhaps she's learned that sound isn't nice so stop biting the bars.. ??? I have no idea, but she's stopped.

i just read somewhere that Degu's can go 26MPH!!!
is that possibly true from what you have experienced?

I think that might actually be true. They are SUPER fast!
