"King Creole" (1958) Starring Elvis Presley, Carolyn Jones, Walter Matthau and Dean Jagger Produced by Hal B. Wallis Directed by Michael Curtiz ("Casablanca") Released on DVD by Paramount Home Entertainment .
@robertred48 Hands down, King Creole is his best. IMO Jailhouse Rock second.
What about Change of Habit, Flaming Star or Wild in the Country? From a non-fan perspective, those are really good too, more serious and plot-driven, not very musical. Follow That Dream is his absolute best for comedy. His most "adult" film probably would be Live A Little, Love A Little, though that one is kind of weird and suffered from trying too hard to get him out of the teeny-bopper formula movies.
I think it is funny how we get our references... some would say that the Fonz (early in the series) is a young Elvis...and yes I remember that the Fonz is suppose to be more like James Dean...his hero. When my kids make references it always seem to be based on the Simpsons...and it is sometimes hard to convince them that (ex.) Olson Wells did something before Mr. Burns. :-D

To be fair to Elvis and his fans, i think he only made two good films out of his 29..
