I found an ad inside an old high school yearbook from 1913 which features the Dayton motorcycles, 7 and 9hp. They also sold Dayton, Olympia and Regal bicycles as well.
The Dayton motor wheel is one of three inter-related motor wheel products sharing the same engine design. The Smith and later B&S motor wheels were rear-mount units and the Dayton is a front-mount.

I had a Dayton with the engine in the front wheel, back around 1985 in Michigan. Better condition, too. Have several photos of it.
