@ASERT310 One would work but 2 would be better for full control of the water movement on both sides of the tank.

I have a 40 gallon which is a 36 Long x 18 W x 17 Tall I'm think of going with a Vortech which do u recommend and how many? Thanks and much love all the way down from L.A.
