I have to admit, while I do love this show a whole bunch, the main reason I'm posting this is because I'm a huge John Saxon fan, and the idea of a guy like him appearing on a game show is bizarre to me. He looks like he's having loads of fun, which makes me wonder why he wasn't booked on them all that often.

Anyway, here's the final episode of the criminally short-lived "Whew!" Should've had a decent run of a few years at the very least, IMO. The aforementioned John Saxon and Betty White are the two celebrities.

  • I think the bonus 3 round in case one team wins both round as a filler otherwise they would be force to start another match and that was the final episode and the new match would never get to be completed

    act 1 - round 1

    act 2 - round 2

    act 3 - gauntlet

    act 4 - new game - round 1

    wrap-up and final good-bye

  • The 'buzzer' sound was also used from 'Password Plus' and 'Trivia Trap'.

  • The 'horn' sound was also used from 'The Price is Right', 'Now You See It', and 'Body Language'.

  • @masonben2011 It's called Sportscaster. It's also used in these game shows: High Rollers (Trebek), Card Sharks (NBC and CBS), Crosswits (Clark version), Play the Percentages (1st format), Super Password, The 'All-New' Let's Make a Deal (Door #4), and The 'New' Chain Reaction (Canadian).

  • I loved John Saxon!

  • "Criminally short-lived" is an understatement. I liked this show so much I actually wrote one of my final term papers on it. (I was an undergrad at the time.)

  • starting at 9:30, didnt that look like a penis?

  • @shoredude2 Actually, by this time "Hollywood Squares" was on it's last legs, and would air it's last NBC episode the week after this. "Squares" ratings had been on a decline due in part to numerous time-slot changes,

(starting, I think in 1976), competition from "The Price is Right, and finally from Paul Lynde's departure in August of 1979.

  • @whirliebird74 No that was "Battle of the Planets"

  • Thank you, GarryMooreFan, for posting this. I didn't remember seeing the Celebrity Whew! episodes (other than a Robert Vaughn episode on Youtube recently)and I was curious to see what John Saxon was like on a game show. Never seen either Beyond Evil or Battle Beyond The Stars. Betty White is always fun to watch. Thanks for posting the last episode of Whew! I'm hoping one day to again see the episode where a guy busted his knee or something celebrating after a main game win & is replaced.
