During the 1999 Holy War a BYU fan went onto the field and tackled Utah cheerleader Billy Priddis who then introduced the fan to his fists.

I was right there on the sideline when the Utah cheerleader got shoved and then proceeded to beat up the BYU boy. As I was covering the game for a number of media outlets, I was able to interview the cheerleader shortly after the episode and he was pretty cool about the whole thing, considering that then BYU athletic director Val Hale confronted him and told him that he was not allowed to run with the flag anymore. As the cheerleader told me, "I guess they think cheering for your team is evil!!"
