If your son was just the conductor it is not his fault either. Even though it was in a gym some of the problems should have been addressed in rehearsal and could have easily been fixed if the director leading the rehearsal had been paying attention.

I can't not say anything to this.... how can the director let those kids sound so bad? It's not their fault. The band director just needs to be better at his job. That is an embarrassment to the school and a disgrace to the profession, let alone the kids. Teach better.

They were in a gym and the sound was not good. Plus, they have terrible instruments because the school has no money. Considering all of the obstacles, he did well. And he was only a junior in high school so he wasn't teaching, just using the conductor skills he was learning.
