http://www.beritoskal.com - Sami yoik from the album "Mátki" which was released in 2007. Composed by Berit M. Oskal . The yoik belongs to Inger Johanne Oskal, who also appears in the video that's shot by a river flood in Kautokeino. Plot: Ingers' fish hook is stuck in a tree. Can she rescue it? Will she fall down in the water? A dramatic rescue operation starts... Dajahusat/lyrics below:

De dan Ingera juoiggadan
dan duottarmánáža mii lei gávpogii fárren
Muhto ii dat doppe nu guhká stađđan
Olgeš gieđas lea oaggunstávrá
gurut gieđas lea mikrofovdna
Ja nuohtat dat gal oba čábbát luovvanit
De dan Ingera juoiggadan

English translation:

This is Ingers' yoik
A child of the tundra
who moved to the city
But she didn't last there for very long
In her right hand she holds a fishing rod
and in her left hand she holds a microphone
And how nicely she carries the tunes!
That's Inger

  • @karex99 LoL. I had the same thought. I had for months been thinking about pre-Clovis origins and one day I accidentally came across a TV show on Saami Joik. I saw people wearing reindeer skins singing near their hide shelters...and I thought MAN those people look and sound like Native Americans. Then it hit me that any nomadic group that could survive in Lapland could have traveled across pack ice to reach North America. I haven't discounted the possibility of Lapps or Solutreans arriving here!!

  • Actually, I believe that the natives of America and Northern Europe are related. They have similar genetic markers, which goes to support the theory that Native Americans came from northern Europe during the last ice age when the two continents were united by ice.

  • Synger Berit også delen på begynnelsen? Det høres annerledes.

    Så utrolig vakkert!

  • Jävligt bra låt.

  • what a warm voice - helvetic greet`s ;-)

  • Så otroligt vackert, tog djupt i mig på ett märkligt sätt

  • @adeadp0em

Given how big northern Europe, North America, and eastern Asia are, wouldn't it be even more surprising if a few features of one of their singing styles -hadn't- been invented at least once in all three areas sometime during the past few millennia?

  • i cant believe how native american/north european native/ and asian style of singing is somewhat similar

  • fiina luohti die dus ;)

  • nice one!

  • beautiful 5/5

    Hail From Vinland
