the is a great video, although a little outdated. the automotive glazing industry has moved on alot since this film was made. volvo used butyl up until the mid 90's.
i think someone should make a new version of this so the dangers can be highlighted to the public once again, because the ammount of customers that ignore drive-away times or are unaware of the dangers of inproper glass replacement is stagering.

safelite and speedy are taking over the industry and driving prices up ....this will only make things worse.as the consumer will b looking for choices other than the big companys.......the fly by night guys with no training will get buisier.....as there prices will b cheaper............total shame........industry f..cked itself royally ...........and believe when i say this..........speedy and safelight are buying those little companies and employing the installers

i have bin installing windshields for 25 years now and since that commercial came out nothing has changed.......its actuall got worse....there are more fly by night guys out there than ever before.....and the industry is still not regulated. i allways pride myself on the work i do and it is a shame that there are still companys out there that sacrifice workmanship and lives for money and time.........windshields should never be done mobile only in a controled enviroment

i was told to only use Safelite Auto Glass... They did my glass and it was far superior to even the original!!! The urethane used is even better than the maker!
The glue they use has a safe drive time of 45 - 1hr....
-
that is a mustang and it comes with butyl from factory.
-
now you have faster curing time .it cost a little more.

The installer in this video did do a good job on removeing the old buytal tape that was OEM to the car. To install it properly you need to remove it all as urethane doesnt stick to it and buytal tape retains water causeing your car to rust out. I wouldnt have layed the V-beed on the glass but on that style car its not a real issue but DOW the current leader and maker of urethane recomends to always lay the beed on the body.

@ant6302 sooo true Ive seen tones of cars where they have a "leak" but the owner is really un aware that there windsheild is just sitting there due to poor installions

@Neeboopsh I should clarify - not ALL adhesives are 1hr. many are 2hr, some are less (but expensive and rarely used). One should make sure the downtime matches the safe driveaway time
-
The safe driveaway times are drastically reduced from the time of this video. Adhesives from major manufacturers like sika are an hour in optimum temperatures on some products for airbagged vehicles. The urethane formulas are much better now than they were.

Any questions about my research and how it applies to current standards remain unchanged/ There is only one adhesive tested on all vehicles of all colors and until you learn what you dont know you wont make sense of it. Study the oem specs and you cant go wrong :)
Thats really interesting
