@johnwcaldwell you mean the driven displacement, don't you?
Cause the rig (without the driven displacement) is available at my site, and there are 5 video tutorials on how to re-use blenrig :)

Is this extension ever going to be merged into the blender trunk?

This is not an extension, this is a rig that I'll try to release within the next few weeks. I use no scripts or anything strange to make it work, it's pure Blender 2.5.
The only script that comes with the rig is for the GUI and for baking the proportions of the rig in order to be able to re-utilize it for rigging new character.
