Kate Clinton (Comedian) leading the crowds in her version of "Hey Hey Hey - Goodbye". It was a looonng list of things we will be glad to see the end of when Bush leaves office.
While this could be taken as disrespectful to one or more religious traditions, and there is some laughter among the crowd, it's actually very representative of things for which many are truly penitent for (including me). I daresay there was more genuine communal repentence in this crowd than in most litanies of repentance recited in churches.
"Penance / penitence" are words I've used to explain my feelings regarding the Bush presidency and our collective Bush-era behavior numerous times.
She was exploiting a plant that is sacred to Native Americans to try to make fun of her religion and she had NO RIGHT to do so. How dare you tell Native people not to criticize this display of RACIST cultural appropriation. Kate Clinton is an insensitive fool and she owes every Native person on turtle island an apology. You need to check your racism.
She was making fun of Catholics NOT native Americans. You need to pay attention if you are going to criticize. You owe Ms. Clinton an apology!!! Wake up and join the 21st century.
I honestly doubt if Kate intended to insult the Native American but rather to insult George Bush in a comical way. She's a comic by profession and this should not have been taken seriously.
I'm sorry if my enjoyment of the entertainment she presented is insulting to anyone but can't you just understand that she did this as a joke.

Kate, Why was it necessary to insult Native people in your racist mockery of our spiritual practices. We would have agreed with and supported your presentation without the minstrel show at the end. Instead, you chose to insult the Native people of this land with your FRAUDULENT, FAKE SHAMAN. SHAME ON YOU, KATE! Don't come to my campus. I will stop you!
Using sage in such a disrespectful and sacrilegious way is DEEPLY offensive to NATIVE AMERICANS. Kate Clinton knew this and put a FAKE SHAMAN on the stage to mock the Native Americans who strongly objected to the use of sage in this MINSTREL SHOW. THINK!!!!!
Do you have any pictures? I've loved Kate Clinton for years. She's a very funny gal. It's a shame she and George Carlin couldn't have gotten together to write political comedy. Oh wow, what a thought ............ Kate and George Carlin in office!!! LOL I don't think the 'right' could handle it. LOL
