Vancouver's Capitol 6 theatre has been torn to shreds after 85 years of service. The theatre built in 1921 was originally known as just the Capitol. The Capitol was at first a grand single theatre with over 2400 seats. The original theatre was demolished in the mid-70s and replaced by a multiplex with six screens in 1977. The capitol, home to decades of movies and movie enthusiasts alike will now be transformed to 372 residences on 43 floors to be known as Capitol Residences.
This short video is a diary of the end to Vancouver's Capitol theatre made between March 2006 and March 2007.

Isn't there a plaque on the exterior of the Vogue calling it a hertiage building? Hertiage buildings are protected aren't they?
I'd like to see someone turn the Vogue into what they are doing at the Rio, running film/live theater.
Only problem with the Vogue is that the seats are terrible. Imagine watching a 3 hour long film in there? I saw a film at the VIFF couple of years back when the Vogue was the Visa Screening Room and my ass was dead by the end of the film, wasn't 3 hours either.

The Vogue is NOT saved. It remains one of the endangered sites in Vancouver.
Famous Player's 1970s multiplex plan was originally to befall on the Orpheum Theatre but that was successfully saved after public outcry. Subsequently the fate fell upon the Capitol, turning it into Capitol 6 and as you said, Famous Players let the place get worn down while waiting for the "stupid scotiabank theatre" to open.

I was looking for a movie today and I noticed that I can't see it downtown. I'd have to go to the suburbs. I remember a time not to long ago when I could see anything downtown.

Amen to the youth gone by. Started with Woodwords and continues to this. How much more will we lose?

Wow, I had no idea the Capitol 6 was no longer there. I probably saw more movies there than at any other theater. There goes another piece of my youth.

What a waste. Famous Players apparently owned the land hence they ran the place into the ground while waiting for the stupid " Scotiabank " theater to open. It's utterly pathetic.
They managed to save the Vogue, why not the Capitol?
