"Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" is a folk song of the 1960s written by Pete Seeger and Joe Hickerson.

It was first performed by Marlene Dietrich in French (as "Qui peut dire où vont les fleurs?") in 1962 at a UNICEF concert. She also recorded the song in English and in German, the latter was entitled "Sag' mir, wo die Blumen sind", with lyrics translated by Max Colpet.

Lyrics:
Where have all the flowers gone,
Long time passing,
Where have all the flowers gone,
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone,
Young girls picked them every one
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

Where have all the young girls gone,
Long time passing,
Where have all the young girls gone,
Long time ago,
Where have all the young girls gone,
gone to young men every one
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

Where have all the young men gone,
Long time passing,
Where have all the young men gone,
Long time ago,
Where have all the young men gone,
gone to soldiers every one,
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

Where have all the soldiers gone,
Long time passing,
Where have all the soldiers gone,
Long time ago,
Where have all the soldiers gone,
Gone to graveyards every one
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

Where have all the graveyards gone,
Long time passing,
Where have all the graveyards gone,
Long time ago,
Where have all the graveyards gone,
Gone to flowers every one
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

Where have all the flowers gone,
Long time passing,
Where have all the flowers gone,
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone,
Young girls picked them every one
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

  • These are not only the wars and battles. It´s also our everyday life. Actually, it is perverse - we have only one world, where we live for only one time. But we got the big talent to destroy ourselves, with our stupid inability to live together. Every animal, each plant has simply more intellect than the entire "so called" intelligent human race. Sometimes perhaps we forget the fact, that we are not more than a little bit shit of a mosquito inside a giant universum. When will they ever learn?

  • I'd love to hear her French version

  • The german version is more taking me, the amercian version sounds not how it supposed to sound fore me, love marlene dittrich!

  • cudnie :)

  • Esta cancion es bellisima.

  • Recall very good this song thanks for an UNHCR ´s ad where many child are shown with a title about the migration and refugee´s status for example: a child writing in a sea sand an E and the title says: Albert Einstein refugee since 1933 and the end a child with a flower and the title says Marlene Dietrich refugee since 1933.

    Nice commercial.

  • But this is the original. ;)
