babamız bizi sevmedi / our fathers didn't love us
çirkiniz! çirkiniz! / (because) we are ugly! ugly!

bütün kitaplarda yazıyor / it is written in all books
bütün günahları kadınlar işliyor / only women commit sin

baba baba söyle bana söyle / father father tell me tell me
tüm günahlarımı dök üstüme / dump all your sins onto me

  • Turkish brothers and sisters, I am Greek. We have had a strange co-existence all these years but our souls suffer and rejoice in life in the same way, that few other people understand. This is a beautiful song and Baba Zula are geniuses. Maximum respect to all you "Kardesh" ! Hainta !

  • But yes, some Greek music: Trypes & Pavlos Sidiropoulos for rock'n'roll, Modeplagal, Thanassis Papakonstantinou and Happy Dog Project for folkloric jazz, Markos Vamvakaris, Stratos Piagoumtzis, Anestis Delias and Giorgos Batis, for old-school but lovely rembetika from the 30's, Nikos Saragoudas for some masterful oud-playing (If you can find the album, "Greek and Turkish Master Musicians" it is unique !) and Chronis Aidonidis, Petroloukas Chalkias, Psarantonis for more folkloric stuff ! Enjoy !

  • @serseri661 Serdal, I'm impressed by your Greek :-) My name is Petros (Pete) ... "Gavros" pertains to my being a fan of Olympiakos Peiraeus, nothing more :-) . I spent the first 25 years of my life in Athens, Greece but I now live in the U.S.A., 4 hrs north of New York City. Izmir is beautiful and I hope to visit some day.

I now remember Mercan Dede, from Fatih Akin's "Crossing the Bridge", a beautiful documentary. Thank you for the suggestion ! Whirling Dervish music is amazing !

  • @PetranGavrosForever , my absence greek; Δεν είναι τίποτε το σπουδαίο, :))

This is copied from a dictionary, i wanted to say "not at all"

Baba Zula is nice, i suggest you to listen Mercan Dede, it's kind of "Sufi Music" Modern and Mystic..

My name is Serdal. Living in Izmir, very near to you! :))

You can also advise me greek musician. (Of course i know Theodorakis, Haris Alexiou, Manoz Loizos) Other good musician, i need you to advise me!..

    Gavros, my dear friend!..

  • @serseri661 My friend, I know very little Turkish but I will say "Tessekur Ederim !" :-)
