I was just there in late July for 2 weeks...its not safe to surf Rifles at low tide...It's sketchy enough at high tide. The reef is right there and it's jagged and sharp. Some dude wiped in the tube and ended his trip in the section of reef called "death rock". He torn up his elbow and had deep lacerations all over his back.

We got Rifles with only our boat for 3 days then had over a week at macaronis by our selves. We only came across 2 other boats the whole 3 weeks we were out. Best trip ive ever done in indo.

fly to singapore, to fly to padang, to take a boat to the waves where 4,5,6 other boats will be on the same break....no fun if you ask me. go surf north sumatra if you want less crowds. the mentawais are over surfed now.
