The new first generation Mini Cooper glovebox latch design is a weak spot in a great car. This example is a 2005 Cabrio. The OEM fix is to replace the glovebox. This is a spendy repair $150 part & a $200 shop fix, and the root design is still weak and will likely fail again. I opted for $4.00 in two magnetic cabinet latches to workaround the issue. Tip: Due to limited drill access, I used a heated 3p finish nail to make the holes for the screws. So far, so good after a week of driving. It has not opened due to vibration. I might add some epoxy if the screws loosen over time. Yes, I you do lose the locking glovebox feature, but it's a reasonable trade-off in my book.

  • I'd like to buy a Mini Cooper. But. Is it a comfortable car? Cars such as BMW. Is Dash Board has a lot of plastic?
