  • bang a hole through the roof!

  • I did that with my last car. It worked awesome. Dead center on a station wagon with one of those 8 foot stainless whips. It looked like a full sized RC car.

Not keen on drilling the roof on this one. It's too tall for a full sized whip on the roof.

  • Run a copper wire from one of the mounting nuts by the antenna to chassis ground. a screw or bolt that is through the body of the car will work great if you have an ohm meter do a short out test to ensure that you have ground from chassis ground to the wire. that should solve the ground-plane problem. That's how I used to make sure I had proper ground on my trucks headache rack. I hope this helps you 73's and good luck de KJ5CQ

  • i wouldnt mount it to the roof rack. though it makes a good mounting place, the grounding sucks horribly.

you could do mag mount, or even better, 102" whip mounted to the bumper. that would give you best reception possible

  • Go no mercy!! Get a ball mount and intall it on one of the side of your ride... Away from tha gas cap ;)

  • get a wilson magnet antenna.

  • loose the whip and put a fire stick on that thing

  • When you get tired of playing with it and pissing away your time and money

get you a Wilson 1000 or 5000 mag mount. And be done with it.

  • The antenna you have looks like a "Hustler" type of loaded whip. I frankly would ditch that set-up and go with a Wilson antenna. I don't trust ANY antenna under three feet in length. What I could see in the vid is that it looks like some kind of coating on the metal bar...that can prevent a good bite or physical connection of the mount to the raw-metal, witch is a necessity. Another point to consider is relocating your mounting location. Hope this helps.

  • ditch the fiberglass go with steel and get a better mount to improve your ground even a magnet will work better than that I use a Wilson 5000 mag mount and it's got good ears and talks good to even on SSB. you just have to get a Accurate S.W.R. meter and get your match at least a 1.5 or lower.
