Just touching on some of the benefits and things to consider when choosing either a crop sensor (APS-C) DSLR over their full frame counterparts.

For this discussion, I have my D7000, a 1.5 crop factor APS-C camera and the full frame FX Nikon D700.

Benefits of crop sensor are:

- Less expensive
- Built in magnification sensor crop facotor
- Lighter and smaller
- Uses central sweet spot of lenses

Advantages of full frame:
- Better low light and dynamic range performance
- Wide angles lenses are true focal length
- Usually more pro features in the camera body

  • whats the best way to get a very wide angle or fisheye view with a crop sensor camera. i was going to buy a 15mm fisheye but ive been told that its not going to give my 600d a true fisheye.

  • @natemarauder8 Not many choices. You can use Lensbaby attachments, but not as good as straight wide angle. Perhaps a Sigma 10-20 would give you wide views. I've used this on my Canon 30D with good results.

  • @MegaClash100 Funny, explain your uploaded video with no dialogue. LOL

  • @LEXPIX I think this is a great video explaining the differences between crop vs full frame :) Well done :)

  • @JanErikEdvartsen Much appreciated.

  • @martinsbanaks12 ..and I'm sure Nikon feels the same for you. LOL I LOVE Canon's too BTW! Like Pepsi and Coke, very similar.

  • @MrMtKam Yes, the VIEWFINDER field of view is full frame on the D7000, but the sensor is not. The SENSOR on the D700 is full frame, but the field of view through the viewfinder is not. I'm comparing SENSOR SIZE not viewfinder FOV.

  • @LEXPIX You're welcome :)

Oh and btw - I have the D7000 and the ISO performance at 6400 is amazing. Love the film-like grain. It's not ugly at all. I can only wonder what the full-frame sensors can manage :)

  • @MegaClash100 Mute it then :)

  • Zzzzzzzz

  • @les777pl get the D7000 trust me I was on the boat when I started last year and purchased the d3100 great camera but after a 2 weeks I noticed the D7000 was a better camera so I returned it and now after 1 year with the d7000 I'm dying to get the D700 LOL i have the same set up d7000 with battery grip and 35mm 1.8g amazing and sometimes i use my SB700.

  • And I still can't decide.

Should I take a D3100 or D5100 right now or wait a while for some more money and get a D7000?

  • I have one last question if you was a portrait photographer would you shoot with a full frame or crop sensor dslr and why ?
