Well today i rattlecanned some clear rustoleum over a panel on the 50 dollar paint job truck :). After shooting it I almost freaked out at how terrible it looked, but then I remembered the most important thing, WETSAND AND POLISH :) It came out looking pretty nice, I think I'll add that step to the rest of the truck as I finish it off. Truck still needs a little bodywork and paint.

  • i put a clear coat on my tailgate and sanded all the way up to 2000 grit and buffed it out with rubbing compound and even polish. then i put it back on the truck out in the sun. the next day it hazed up real bad. what do i do now? i buffed it again and the same thing. does the paint need to cure a certain amount of time, then i buff it again? help me mike!

  • @mikepfleming after I finished polishnig...I used a good UV resistant wax, eliminates that problem

  • @mikepfleming rubbing compound makes swirl marks, i would try a finishing compound and then wax.

  • @Bryanx89 exactly. I would rather use a polishing compouns, and run the rotary buffer 3x and get a mirror result, then bang through it with rubbing compouns and get stuck with swirls.

  • I wish you had shown them side by side comparison, so we could see if the difference was worth all the extra effort :-)

  • @girlmastergeneral honestly I don't think its worth the extra effort. If I had clear coat and my compressor was still running, with an my hvlp gun it might have been.

  • So with everything clear different sandpaper extra coats rollers thinners what does it really coast for a truck that size im thinking 150 _200 range ?

  • @mikepfleming

Make sure you didn't go through the clear coat and now the paint is fading where there's no more clear...the way to tell is if you were polishing it and the paint color was coming off on the pad/rag you were using to buff it.
