I was one of 5 composers to be chosen to be a part of this project where we do a condensed orchestration of "The Rite of Spring" by Igor Stravinsky. This "Shrinking Orchestra" project with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra has so far been a great experience and opportunity to be able to work with and experiment with a live orchestra right in front of me.

  • Wow... this is a fascinating video blog. You are so lucky to be so gifted of a composer/musician. Thanks for sharing!!

  • @gfunk449 Thanks for watching! I am very blessed to have this opportunity.

  • Is that BaySpo you were on ?

I forgot to pick it up when I went to Curry House in Cupertino today... May be next time I'll check it out.

  • @lostinxlation Ya it was BaySpo. It's only up for a week so you can't get it anymore. They have other interesting interviews on it each week though.

  • Plus there was the danger of trying to keep a vain and wealthy patron happy or, even worse, offending the church - since they were one of wealthiest and most powerful sources of patronage. As long as they got what they were expecting - else it was an excellent way of meeting an early death. :o)

Hopefully we'll see you on the Jools Holland show soon. :o)

06:39 Oi bozo! It's a grand piano, not a bloody xylophone! Tut, tut, just can't get the staff.

  • @acromel Haha, ya that was crazy, but it worked though. Pianos have gone through much worse than that though.

Ya we'll see where I'll go as a composer. Life is always an adventure unless you stifle it.

  • This is great. I love seeing people practice Stravinsky!!!

  • How did I miss this? Good stuff winton!

  • Great video! Besides, anytime I can hear your music, I'm a happy camper. Maybe I can swing by SF in April 2011 for the concert!

  • Looks like you guys had a good time. Good luck with the concert in April :D

  • @qchome You can check out the bags at "hideo store dot com". Hopefully I won't get trouble for this, but I recommend their bags over their suitcases.

I don't care for Stockhausen at all. Although I was somewhat intrigued with his 9th Klavierstuck. I've listened to almost everything from that time period, and I like and appreciate Berio and Scelsi the best. I rarely listen to their music anymore though.

That's cool you know Stockhausen :)
