Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addresses delegates at COP15, the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

Ahmadinejad names capitalism and materialism as key components of environmental degradation; calls for a focus on expanding the use of clean and renewable energy sources, including the peaceful use of nuclear power; and outlines strategies to control climate change. - COP15

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is the sixth and current President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the main political leader of the Alliance of Builders of Islamic Iran, a coalition of conservative political groups in the country. An engineer and teacher from a poor background, Ahmadinejad joined the Office for Strengthening Unity after the Islamic Revolution. Appointed a provincial governor, he was removed after the election of President Mohammad Khatami and returned to teaching.

Tehran's council appointed him mayor in 2003. He took a religious hard-line, reversing reforms of previous moderate mayors. His 2005 presidential campaign, supported by the Alliance of Builders of Islamic Iran, garnered 62% of the runoff election votes, and he became President on August 3, 2005.

  • I would say that Iran is no more oppressive than Israel - which is a theocratic apartheid state which the US sends 3 billion dollars to every year.

  • He doesn't know what capitalism is. Read about 'capitalism' in the Ayn Rand Lexicon website. Capitalism is about rights, not materialism or greed. The USA is not a capitalist country.

  • about time for all dictators in middle east specially in iran get a taste of their own treatment ... Islamic republic had put so much cap on sealing all Regime's villainy and crime against humanity ( specially their own iranian people).

Jails are full of innocent people just because they speak their minds! lots of political and religious related detainees with no apparent law breaking charges against them.

however violence is not the answer. stay calm and peacfull and safe.

  • @chillfacto no we won't. we'll keep prospering. and realize that as imperfect as capitalism is, it is infinately preferable to systems that are against the human value of greed

  • @chrispollock like a bacterial smear in a petri dish - colonies grow by consuming available resources until they fall victim of their own by-products and limited nutrients. In the end, the petri dish still exists but the bacteria are dead. simple biological model of a closed system. financial models assume an open system. these facts are widely available yet we ignore them for individual gratification. enjoy you meal of nutrient rich agar... we'll all be choking on our own shit in due time.

  • @chrispollock ahmadinjihad is a nationalist not a socilalist

  • Google "Ahmadinejad punished my Christian mother's rapist" and see his good work as mayor of Tehran!

  • im an amarican and still belive it was an inside job

  • What the guys like a communist now,the guys been talkin to much to hugo chavez,we should be usin like those radars up in the sky and then send over like nighthawk or an f-22 to bomb the guy or the nuclear reactors or what ever, instead of spending trillions of dollars on a pointless war, because the guy probabaly wont use the nike anyway.

  • @ChristianDLindsey capitalism is good for individual economic freedom. socialism is state economic slavery. so no, socialism is a step backward
