Demonstrating the side to side play in the head/blade pivot of the Xieda 9958 micro helicopter.

You can add one tiny shim to tighten this up a bit for more precision. However, make sure the blade still pivot freely.

Another way to tighten this up, making it more precise and durable at the same time is using mCX lower blades plus one of the 9958 linkages. Hopefully you have one to spare. :)

Basically, cut off the round part of the 9958 linkage to use as a shim/spacer. Then put the mCX lower blades on.

The fit will be perfect, but yet still allow free pivot of the blade.

The benefit this mod is that the balls on the blade is less likely to break off. Plus, the preciseness of the fit equals better precision in the air. The mCX balls are slightly smaller. In hard crashes, the linkages will pop off, rather than break off the ball.

Hover should be rock steady. No toilet bowl effect.

If you'd like to do without using the 9958 linkages as shim. You can purchase the matching mCX lower rotor head. It will be a direct fit on the 9958 main shaft. However, there will be very, very slight play as shown in the video above. But not a big deal.

The blade mCX lower rotor head and lower blade combination makes the 9958 10x more durable. Highly recommended despite the $6 outlay to purchase it initial.

Other blades that fit are:
lower mCX2
lower mCX glow in the dark
lower ForceFX -has painted tips like mSR

  • I'm waiting on mine come in any chance we can get more info on how to shim it?

  • @joshstreet09 Look at the notes above. I added some info on the current best way to shim and get rid of the slop in the blade pivots. This info is from the experience of many on the discussion boards on how to make the blade more durable, lighter and more precise. Hope it helps. This heli is great. I have the Solo Pro and mSR to compare. And I prefer the 9958 with a Turnigy 9x because it flies really, really well and has a low cost for replacement parts/maintenance.

  • They are fantastic. I enjoy them more than my mSR and Solo Pro. The parts are so cheap, so it allows me to go crazy. There's a HUGE thread over on RCGroups about this heli...with the ways to fix any weaknesses this heli has in it's stock form. Plus, pair up to a Turnigy 9x programmable remote and you have a very, very good heli.

  • im thinking about getting one,how are they?

  • @rednexRC Definitely get one. It's a blast to fly and all my friends now have them or getting them. The price is good and it's a blast to fly together with friends.

  • I just ordered one, im really looking foward to it. I noticed the radio that comes with it looks just like the dmx2 radio that came with my Ember 2. Does anyone know if the dmx2 will bind with the 9958? the battery also looks the same as the one of the Ember 2...

  • do I hear an owl in the background?

  • Will this bind to a Specktrum or is another brand radio?

  • @rednexRC Yes they are very very good, I fly mine outside in calm conditions with the Turnigy 9X transmitter. i also got some Turnigy 160mah batteries, but you need to charge them with a charging lead and a proper lipo charger, not the USB one supplied with the stock battery, but with these it is even better again!

  • Yeah, I bought one based on koolaid drinkers like the ones posting good reviews here. Very unstable, even after calibration because as you yaw in either direction, it pitches forward for no reason at all so you have to compensate for the poor stability, something you need to unlearn when you move from this to a well made heli.

  • These are fantastic helis. Add the programmable Turnigy 9x transmitter from HobbyKing, which binds with this heli. And you got something that's better than the competition, and still below their usual RTF and BNF packages. Definitely worth picking them up for some fun indoors and outdoors when it's calm.
