OK, no offense to all of the cover bands and stuff, but NO ONE does this song like John Stewart, especially this version! I made this video using pictures from Tombstone, Gleeson, and other AZ locations, plus some additional pictures from Utah taken by my best cowboy friend Jake.

The people pictured are friends and family...mostly me and my beloved, but both of my daughters are in this. This is my Christmas present to my darling, since he can't be here right now. I love you!

July You're a Woman
John Stewart

I can't hold it on the road
When you're sitting right beside me
And I'm drunk out of my mind
Merely from the fact that you are here

And I have not been known
As the saint of San Joaquin
And I'd just as soon right now
Pull on over to the side of the road
And show you what I mean

Lah de dah de dah de dah
Lah de dah de dah de dah
O July, you're a woman,
More than anyone I've ever known

And I can't keep my eyes
On the white line out before me
When your hand is on my collar
And you're talkin' in my ear

And I have been around
With a gypsy girl named Shannon
The daughter of the devil
It is strange that I should mention that to you
I haven't thought of her in years

Lah de dah de dah de dah
Lah de dah de dah de dah
O July, you're a woman,
More than anyone that I've ever known

I can't hold it on the road
When you're sitting right beside me
And I'm drunk out of my mind
Merely from the fact that you are here

And I have not been known
As the saint of San Joaquin
And I'd just as soon right now
Pull on over to the side of the road
And show you what I mean

Lah de dah de dah de dah
Lah de dah de dah de dah
O July, you're a woman,
More than anyone I've ever known
July, you're a woman,
More than anyone I've ever known
More than anyone that I have ever known
July you're a woman

  • This was the love of my life's song for me in the summer of '72 (in Utah). After 39 years, we are back together and planning a future. You did a wonderful job with the montage.

  • @Farasha210 I'm so happy for you that you and your Love have been able to get back together. Wishing all the best for you!

  • This is a seriously good Edit.

  • @pbs011 Thank you! I put a lot of time into this, and I don't think it's bad for my first effort, but it's nice to get positive feedback from others.

  • Glad you enjoyed it...My parents also bought on Palm Row in '52, and my brother still lives there. Lakeside Historical Society on FB did a great article about the Maniscalco's Cactus Ranch. Lakeside was a great place to live in those days.

  • my father played this on hig gutiar when i was a child ...he passed away in 2003 and havent heard this song sence....thankyou for the memories.......side note saw a pic of riverford road in lakeside ca. that just so happens to be where i live

  • @madmart783

I'm glad it brought back happy memories! Our family has lived in Lakeside since 1951, and though I have moved to Tombstone, my brother still lives in our old house on Palm Row. Not many houses on Riverford, and I only remember the name of one family that lived where Riverside T'd into Riverford. I couldn't resist using the photo of it when I found it online!

  • Dude, I remember this song so well from when I was a kid. My dad and mom used to play this song in the car on road trips. A+ for posting this.

  • Oh, that sexy little "growl" of his at the beginning of the song gets me every time! Whoosh! Fabulous video, Rosie -- thanks SO much for putting up John's version. It's sheer perfection.

  • Lovely song! I hope you and your love are very happy and last forever.

  • Just a wonderful song! I grew up in Phoenix and it embodies all the good times had there. So sorry he's gone; he died too young!

  • This song will always take me back to a morning in the early spring in the early 70s. My friends and I had taken our VW bus up to Tuolome Meadows above Yosemite...bees were swarming in the trees and the million rivulets of Tuolome fed on the first thawing of winter snow in the Sierras. No one was there but us...we dropped a little LSD and we lay on our back under a crystal sky and I played this song on a guitar that I had carried all the way from Spain. Yes, I do remember Jon Stewart.

  • I simply love this wonderful song!

And I have not been known as the saint of san Joaquin and i'd just as soon right now...Pull on over to the side of the road and show you what I mean.

John Stewart was a very gifted singer and composer.

    R.I.P John

  • naw, it wasn't them, I guess it will remain amystery.

  • @mcgargle50 Red, White, and Bluegrass sang it, but it seems to have disappeared.

  • there was a version of this on the radio in the 70's, but both me and my sister swear it wasn't this one by john stewart [ nor mickey and the motorcars], can anyone tell me of another version and by who?
