Sorry for the end, mr. Aebersold got a little hasty and queued for Autumn Leaves :(.

Having said that, I'm very happy to have discovered Aebersold, it's so much better than Band in a Box!!

In this recording, I try to be a bit minimalistic, paying more attention to details such as dynamics and short lines. Speaking of technique, I was going to post something semi-up tempo, and I will, but I can't just yet.
You see, I've been working on learning the classical method of fingering on scales for a while now. If you look at my previous videos I have quite an unorthodox method of playing...and it's surprising how fast I can sometimes play with it. I still use it, but it has its limits in terms of distance (how many octaves/notes the fingering can be repeated) and speed..the classic method does not.

I get mails and comments about good my dynamics are...well I suppose that's cause I always appreciate that paticular detail in the piano collection recordings of Final Fantasy and most of all, Keith Jarrett. I try to practice it with pieces such as these...simple, slow tunes with plenty of space to breathe.

It's absolutely nothing fancy in terms of harmonics or technique, but like with life, you have to appreciate the small things in music too :)

  • why does everyone mess up the tempo and general song? i don't understand man, play it properly! well done of course though

  • @moogun94 I'll agree that I messed up the changes and melody, though even now I take many liberties in playing a standard's melody. But in Jazz there's never a wrong or messed up tempo for a tune!

I mean just look at Brad Meldau's recording of It Might as Well be Spring, it's in 7! hehe.

If I can find a rig that works for my current setup I'll try to record some stuff in July or so.

  • What chords do you use in the left hand? You make it sound so amazing but when I try it sounds nothing like this!! :(

  • @ThePiano1991 Probably rootless voicings. You need something else to play bass to use them, hence the backing track. The 3 or 7 is ideally the lowest note.

  • Which aebersold is this?

  • @OMGitsbeektor number 58 unforgettable standards.

  • @moogun94 In jazz there is a lot of flexibility & freedom in changing up the tempo, tweaking the melody, etc. That's the beauty of it. I don't think there is 1 jazz arrangement of an original song that hasn't been tweaked.

  • So relaxing.

  • Best jazz version of this song on youtube, you are amazing! I have it on my iPod now. :)

  • what the theme are you playing at the end at 4:23?? amazing by the way.

  • @Vayshen What're the chords you play in your left hand? I'm a singer and i'm just looking for some nice accompaniments to sing to :)

  • :o Could you make a tutorial? I love it :D

  • what a sensitive touch!

    I really like it!

    keep on playing!

  • I understand, great job! :)
