  • This is from Ernie's brief 1952 NBC daytime series [11-11:30am(et)], originating from Philadelphia (at the time he was winding up his stint on WPTZ's early morning "THREE TO GET READY" series, which was eventually displaced by Dave Garroway's new "TODAY SHOW" at the time). This series had no sponsorship, so Ernie was free to satirize the absurity of commercial ad copy, as demonstrated here. Stan Freberg later created a more biting satire on selling "Food" in one of his 1957 CBS radio shows...

  • Hey, something fishy is going on here?!? I think I've been mislead by false advertising?!!? When he turned that 'Food' bag upside-down, no food fell out!! Ernie was trying to sell us 'non-food'!!

    Next time they hand me a bag of food at the McDonalds Drive-Thru, I'm gonna turn the bag upside-down to make SURE there's some food in it...

  • So THIS is why I'm obese! This guy must have appealed to my folks (I wasn't around in 1952) and they stuffed me full of it!
