Running to the oven to get the HOT bearing race and installing it in an LM1500. On a Sunday in the S&S Turbines industrial engine overhaul shop in Jet City, Canada.
@izaatmusic Removal of the thrust bearing does not involve differential heating or other elegant techniques. It is done with brute force. A hydraulic puller tool is used to engage grooves on the bearing races that are there to engage the tool. It pushes against a plate placed ove the end of the shaft, and pulls the race off.
The races could be hydraulically "pushed" into place on installation, but the tool needed for that would be huge, and hugely expensive.
