1 vs 1 Dogfight

This is a "one versus one" dogfight between a Glasair II and an RV-4. The Glasair is much faster, but the RV has a better wing for the turning dogfight. ...good way for a couple of old military pilots to while away the time.

Great footage,I always wanted to get a buddy to go up and dog fight with me,after watching your video though I'm not so sure.I can see how a day of fun can turn into two flaming wrecks crashing to the ground!Hats off to you guys for having the balls to do it.

Thanks for your comment. Simulated air to air combat is an art learned over many years and in terms of safety should not be taken lightly. Each pilot, whether engaged in aerobatics, formation, tailchase, dogfights, or just normal flying, needs to know his own limititations and remain within that boundary. In this video, both of us were trained in air to air combat by the military and we have a good feel for when it's time to call, "knock it off."

LOL you guys are dogfighting them! How maneuverable is the Rv4? Also they sell Rv4s in single seats right? thats what I want. I will buy two seat later

The RV-3 is the single seater and the most maneuverable, but the early models had a weak wing and a few people were killed after wing failure. Only buy one with the new wing, or a modified early wing is my advice. The RV-4 is the second most maneuverable in the RV series and is an all around great sport aerobatic bird.

I am a frustrated fighter pilot myself (my corrected vision kept me out of being eligible for military service).

As the old adage goes -

"Once a fighter pilot always a fighter pilot".

ok so if I buy RV-3 I should just make sure it has the new wing on it. Are these planes only self-build or is it possible to buy a new one and have it constructed for you
