Why do half the comments seem to be from idiot republicans and libertarians going.
"ITS OBVIOUSLY THE GOVERNMENTS FAULT WE NEED TO DEREGULATE!"
Yes it TOTALLY wasn't the people that were doing the risky trading and that pushed deregulation.

Interesting how they completely ignore the BAD laws which created the problem. They make it seem like demand for mort. backed securities caused lenders to make bad loans, but this is a lie. Bad loans were MANDATED by Frank & Dodd's "Affordable" Housing Act. Because if you look at a group of high risk borrowers, and they happen to share higher %'s of certain ethic groups, then it MUST be racist that nobody wants to lend to them. Hence social engineering destroys the economy.

Deregulation took away the provisions that stopped banks from lending money to people who could not afford it. Banks wanted to lend to people who couldn't afford it because when they couldn't pay their bills then they could foreclose and sell the house again, and when they sold a house it increased the value of all nearby houses. It was a system to make money off of other people misfortunes.

I don't know about deregulating, but the gov't definitely played a negative role by encouraging banks to lend subprime mortgages. Inherent in the whole system was the tacit guarantee that the gov't would bailout bad investments. Even banks who didn't think it was a good idea did it anyway to be competitive in the market. If Fannie and Freddie weren't buying subprime mortgages, and if (mostly the dems in) congress would have allowed an audit, institutions wouldn't have made bad bets.

I checked out this movie because I eventually got honestly concerned about the economy and had little idea what to do. Cash does not always mean anything nowadays. Thus I decided to do a little groundwork and stumbled on Goldiverse. I\'m so fortuitous, I have the ability to switch my savings from cash to all the major currencies, to any precious metal the moment I would like. The government can go and take a jump for all I care. Just Bing and google it Goldiverse.
