Today a special guest came to the studio. Miho lived in England for seven and a half years.
I'm planning to have a guest every Monday from now on. I'll ask people about their language learning experiences.
Do you live in Kutchan? Please come and be a guest on the show!

  • That accent surprised me a lot.

Does Miho have a youtube channel?

  • @MrGrimezTheAntiHero Not that I know of.

  • Are you serious?

  • That was neat to see her with an english accent, I wish she spoke a little japanese so I could see if I could detect a little english accent bleeding into her japanese language.

  • Yeah, I think her accent is cool : ) You can hear her speak Japanese on Show 262. I just put the link in the video description for you.

  • I'm amazed at her English! I am Japanese and I have studied abroad before, but my English is crap compared with hers. I really wanna go to an English speaking country again, and make it much better. Thanks for this video. It motivated me a lot.

  • acromel could have introduced this site, and I'm very pleased to hear Miho's English.

w(゚o゚)w WOW! I'm also from JP and I live in now,but I've been studying English after graduating a university to watch Hollywoods movies without japanese captions. But It's too hard for me even now. I appreciate you'd given me a nice teaching video. Thanks

  • Good job Miho!

I think that one of the important attributes one needs in learning another language is the desire and ability to immitate. You clearly have it.

  • Seven and a half years... of course it's like a second mother tongue! :) I see my students go from not speaking a word of Japanese to fluency within two years here in Japan!

  • @tachikaze222 not "loony" at all. She obviously just lived in a North english town (Nottingham?), and picked up the accent by proxy. In N. England everyone speaks like that - so unlikely she just "hung around with 2-3 people". Also don't really think you can choose your accent, it just happens!

  • Wow sounds like a local and I'm a brit.

  • @thedailyenglishshow I think that's good advice, yes.

Somebody to have actually learned this thick a regional accent strikes me as kinda loony, really, like they only hung around 2-3 people.

In a professional setting, neutral intonation is preferred, and I think the Canadians are good models of this. Moderately Americanized perhaps, but not entirely.

Her British accent is just as hard for Americans to understand as her Japanese accent would be.

(not that there's a trace of that tho)

  • Heh I spent 7 1/2 years in Tokyo but I'm pretty sure I don't have such an outrageous Tokyo accent, if there is even such a thing.

  • No,it's not amazing that she learnt english and got a vaguely Essex accent! It happens all the time over here!
