  • I had hoped that USAF would order the A400M as a tanker and they would be build in this country but politics forced us to order a tanker based on the old 767 airframe...brw in 1959 I did ride a early version of the C130 from Athens to France...I like this series of videos very much...thanks for them !

  • @granskare The USA have some of the greatest aeronautic industries in the World. Why should you buy a foreign plane?

It is like giving ready hot money to foreign supplier, instead of supporting thousands of jobs in your own country and supporting your own economy.

I was always saying that even if your domestic product comes second to the best, it is always preferable to build it inside the country.

  • @BitnikGr I did write that the A400M would be built in USA

  • @granskare Oh ok. My mistake... Sorry.

But why do you believe that existing US built fuel tankers are not good enough?

  • @BitnikGr it's the air force that has that belief :) but they are built on the old 707 airframe

  • @granskare That's why USAF procured competition for new tanker. Which companies were in that competition? I know there were 3 of them, one of which was Antonov, which lost from the very beginning... it should even start :) Which are the other two? Boeing and...?

  • @BitnikGr Boeing with 767 and Airbus with A330.

@granskare What's wrong with the 767? It might be 30 years old, but the design is solid, good power for hot and high conditions. Range is good, average take off run, but so is A330. You aren't expecting them to choose the 787, are you?

  • @BitnikGr Airbus constructs the A400M

  • @BOROZ28 I don't know what do you mean by "all surfaces", but C-130 can land on dirt airstrips. Even if Russian medium size cargo planes can land in mud and grass I wouldn't say that this is a huge minus. It would be huge minus if C-130 could land only on concrete runways. But that is not the case...

  • C-130 Is a plane that has a very delicate suspension and can't land on all surfaces VS the Russian similar equipment. That is a huge minus.....
