I guess the camera angle is just okay, but the camera exposure is really bad. Maybe they forgot to put the automatic exposure on before Latvala went on stage. I guess that is usually used on those incar films?

Yeah, I also liked the angle that was used last year in Focuses (Also in 2008 i.e Galli's car had this). Search for "Japan 2007: Latvala SS12 Onboard" to see what I mean. You can see the driver working. The only bad side of this angle was that if the camera had been mounted just a bit too low, codriver's helmet was blocking the view.

I think just over the driver's right shoulder would be good - less screen real estate devoted to roll cages and carbon fiber seats.

They are nice but I prefer these Focus onboard camera angles... You can see the crew working etc. :)

I want the cameras to be on the roof or the grill of the car to get a better view.

Yeah, too bad that the exposure is bad, because this stage looks (sounds :D) to be very, very demanding...
