Because the Yuan does not appreciate when the dollar falls, the US over-imports from China and under-produces vis a vis China. In case you hadn't noticed, this contributes to significant levels of unemployment in (typically) manufacturing sectors. See: Michigan through Ohio to Pennsylvania. The academic problem with this is that this has nothing to do with who is more competitive or cost-effective. China must wake up and let its fiat currency float on the markets for sustainable global recovery.
