Again, this is a multi track recording that I made. I play my violin as well as my baroque cello that I set up earlier this year. This is meant to be an improvement on the original, though still not perfect. Sorry there is no video.

A high quality mp3 or ogg is available at http://www.archive.org/details/Boccherini-Passacalle

  • @link0911ds Baroque instruments are often tuned to an A 415 instead of an A 440. This recording is in the right key, but it sounds about a half a step lower. Whether or not Boccherini used this pitch is a different matter.

  • awesome improvement with the tempo and audio quality.

just a tip, you may want to try to keep the cello licks within the same style, more legato and connected, less staccato. other than that, i say good job.

btw, your cello has a very nice sound. who is the maker?

  • In this take I was going for a more period style, as opposed to the more modern style of the first take. Naturally, this take does not have the legato and connected style that the first take had. In the first take I used my modern cello, whereas in this take I used my baroque cello. I therefore used different bow strokes on this take for stylistic reasons, and also because baroque cellos respond differently.

  • My baroque cello was made in 1753 Austria by a maker called Andreas Nicolaus Parth. I set it up as a baroque cello myself (with some help) in 2008.

  • Sorry, to clarify, my baroque cello was at some point after its creation setup as a modern cello. In 2008 I essentially set it back up as a baroque cello. This involved changing the neck angle and handmaking a new fingerboard, tailpiece, nut, and button (in place of an endpin), as well as carving a baroque style bridge.

  • Thumbs up if you got here because you play Academagia!

  • Wow, a massive improvement on the last recording. I'm curious as to what else this recording could have in the way of improvement because certainly from the listener's point of view, it's fantastic. I was dissapointed to hear the key change when I listened to this version after your first attempt. I'm learning this piece by ear, on violin and it would have been a great help to play along. Could you lend me a hand by telling me the notes to the violin (arpeggio is it?) part in the middle. Thanks

  • This is beautiful but I prefer your first take

  • I have no idea about music but I really love this. I play it over and over countless times while I do my hw and it keeps me focused :)

  • Bravo! Beautifully done!

  • I love the bite to your Baroque Cello...

  • Beautifully done! I'm a Freshmen in Highschool, and I'm really striving to become a great cellist. I love how you played this, and with the baroque cello it sounded fantastic!

  • What a good job you did!!!!!!!...

  • @cello1753 woooooow

  • agree with the staccato comment. Your snatching for the notes a little bit too much. Smooth it down and let it flow. But great tone and great effort. nearly perfect :)
