Sentinel Hill - featuring EmberIsolte.

I discovered 'Sentinel Hill' on an otherwise fine day I spent flat on my back with pain. Spinal injuries, ugh. But it does give you perspective about darker things, and the song wrote itself - an anthem for hope.

I'd already roped Emberisolte into singing another WoW-related piece (for the Blizzcon 2010 contests), but there was time yet, so I figured I'd see how she felt about fast-tracking another one. Kudos, she turned around the vocals around in just two days, magic!

Ember, it does'nt bother me at all that we didn't place in the movie/song contests (and grats to those who did!). I considered this song a winner in its own right the moment I heard your vocals for the first time.

To play this on guitar, you'll begin by plucking an open A minor, then repeat but with a B as root (5th string, middle finger), transitioning into C Major. F Major is next (bar chord, 1st fret) to E major, adding a suspended A (Sus4) on the third string to get you into the chorus.

Chorus is good ol' G Maj (Sus2) / D Maj / A Minor / C maj

Note - it is the suspended A added to the E Major that allows it to gel with the chorus, but on guitar you might strum G Maj Sus2 / G Maj / G Maj Sus 2 / G Maj for those four beats of the first bar, as you add that A on string 3. Likewise for the following D Maj and on-and-off with the Sus4 G on string 1. In the song itself, you won't hear these as guitar parts, but they are accents I add with other instruments. I do write all my songs starting with guitar, however. I hope this terminology is correct, my theory is kinda limited because I never studied any music at school.

I bought your album and its amazing, i just wish it included this video to make it all that more powerful. Ember did an awesome job. There's one thing that always bothers me though, did his mother die while waiting ( maybe depression?) or was she looking at her husband grave or something? I'd love to know. @Renia118 Thank you Renia. When I wrote this song it had an unresolved ending, truly there is no greater torment than losing a child, and yet how many children have wars taken from us? As the sun sets on time itself, these parents are waiting forever for their children to come home. But when I made the movie, it had other ideas, it demanded I add another scene. It asked me to hope, and so I did. The real ending is what you hope for, too.

Before I read the words, I thought Ember was singing, "but a heart the is pure won't bring my Westfall child home from war..either way,..war takes something away from your soul, and any warrior will tell you that they are fighting to keep that pain from happening to someone else.
