  • Your writings whatever they are, would be a big boost to the new age/occult. Simply because there is virtually no compitition and because you have a good rational approach. I think Crowley's sardonic and arcane silliness was something he had a hard time controlling. You seem to be his complete opposite. Calling yourself a level-headed "trans-deist", and not pursuing some "Great work".

  • @Tubewander The "great work" if there is one, is to stop the new agers, pagans, occultists and the rest from being such wankers

  • Unfortunately, no matter who the author, it seems people will often distort meaning. I don't think this is done intentionally. I think that readers have to translate things for themselves for them to be personally meaningful. What follows then is a game of telephone where they pass on their personal summaries rather than the actual text, which are further translated by the listener and on down the line until the final "agreed" upon meaning is completely different than what was intended.

  • @Dustwalker73 That might be the case, but one can still carry on fighting for whats true.

  • You are not the first person I've heard that said Crowley has been really misunderstood by his own followers (If that's what I heard you saying correctly.)

I think this is largely true. Little Sunshine put a lot of things in his writings to trip people up, because he knew people would most likely use "Do what you will" to mean "follow your own inclinations." I'm of the opinion that a lot of things he did and wrote about were not things he had in mind for true magical people.

  • @BespokeGroupUK You're absolutely right! Sorry about my negativity, I'm just frustrated with people always accepting another person's thoughts/ideas as their own, refusing to do the work of actually going back to the original source and figuring things out for themselves. It's a phase...I'm sure I'll get over it. lol

  • Crowley was in the FAR extremes of the occult. The way some people take him as mainstream is pretty hilarious. I think the spooky and "black magical" aspects of the occult seem to be active in the decline of christianity in the western world. If the economy or natural disasters devastate the western world, I can easily imagine lots of cults and crowley types thriving.

  • Well, good luck in getting it done Nick x
