A Link to the Past! Secret "Chris Houlihan" room!

In the early '90s, Nintendo Power had a contest for a lucky winning gamer to get his name and his own secret room in the upcoming Zelda game, A Link to the Past (SNES). I entered that contest, but didn't win. A guy named Chris Houlihan won instead and got his own room in one fo the greatest games of all time. Though this room was removed from the GBA port, it remained in the Wii Virtual Console release, as you can see here.

I am sorry if you can't figure out how to do it, but that's not my problem. Download a guide on Gamefaqs that tells how to do it, as there are such guides there. And if you still can't make it work, feel free to pop in here and let us know how lame you are for failing and then cart off to your room and wallow in your own ignorance. I done this quite a few times, it's real on the SNES copy. Did not know this was a secret room though just a place to get a ton of rubee's now I know was some kind of deal.

Strangely enough, no one has ever been able to produce the actual issue where Chris Houlihan won (and every NP is available online through one means or another). Obviously the room itself isn't a myth, but the legend behind it probably is and the most likely explanation is that Chris Houlihan was a translator for the localisation team and decided to put his name in the error room.

The trick works. I just did it on my SNES cartridge copy of the game after I watched this video. The trick (as far as I can tell) is to not waste too much time and keep dashing with the Pegasus Boots to go as quickly as possible from the Sanctuary to the eastern part of Hyrule castle where you find the secret-entrance bush.
