On May 21, 2009, Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire ordered state actions to reduce climate-changing greenhouse gas emissions and to increase transportation and fuel-conservation options for Washington residents.
Gregoire issued her Executive Order on Climate Change after testifying in front of a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) panel in Seattle. The panel hearing was held to gather comments on an EPA proposal to issue a finding that greenhouse gases pose a threat to public health and welfare.
Also providing testimony were State Sen. Phil Rockefeller, chair of the Environment, Water and Energy Committee; and Rep. Dave Upthegrove, chair of the House Ecology and Parks Committee.
