I am amazed that there weren't more Quisp and Quake commercials up here. Having already posted the 1st Cap'n Crunch commercial, their mighty predecessor, I had to add the 1st Quisp and Quake commercial. I'm feeling lazy, so I will just clip the history from Wiki:
"Quisp and a similarly marketed cereal Quake were originally released in 1965 in the United States by The Quaker Oats Company and generally advertised together (during the same commercial) as products competing against each other. The very successful ads were cartoons created by Jay Ward of Rocky and Bullwinkle fame, and used some of the same voices, including Daws Butler as the voice of Quisp (an alien) and William Conrad as the voice of Quake (a miner).[1]

The commercials often asked children to choose which cereal was better and would compete over taste or premiums. The competition reached its peak in 1972, when a series of commercials asked children to vote for which cereal should remain on the shelves. Quake had a makeover in 1969, changing his miner hat for a cowboy hat, but that was not enough. Quisp was the winner and Quake was immediately discontinued. Quake as a cereal was gone, but the character Quake soon reappeared as a sidekick of an orange kangaroo named Simon in an orange-flavored cereal called Quangaroos. In 1976, Quaker Oats ran another contest, this time asking children to choose between Quisp and Quangaroos. Quisp won again and Quangaroos was discontinued."

  • @iammufo Yup, they were the same...Cap'n Crunch, just shaped differently! Quake became King Vitamin!

  • Quake got a "makeover" later in the cereal's marketing campaign, featuring a slimmer character in a cowboy hat and boots...The Quisp packages were also altered in the late 60's because of issues some had about the mascot brandishing a gun on a product intended for kids...

  • I currently have two boxes of Quisp in my pantry!

  • @catchersmitt0 funny yu shud mention that, the voice of quake is actor william conrad. "meanwhile back in pottsylvania" was a tagline from rocky and bullwinkle cartoons.and yoov probly seen him in the crime drama 'canon' on 70s t.v. gud call.cheers

  • An alien versus a coalminer...isn't this one of the rounds in Mortal Kombat?

  • @bingobongo445 Very true. Kids used to eat sugary cereals, then run around burning off their 'quazy' energy. That was considered normal. Nowadays energetic kids are prescribed Ritalin.

  • @handinside Kids didn't have problems with high blood sugar in 1966, remember this was back in the day when you went outside to play all day. Think about it how many lard asses did you know in the 60s! my guess is none, and why is that because our parents didn't let us get flabby! we also had recess in school 5 days a week .

  • I had a Quisp plushie when i was 4 (1969) I miss that guy.

  • thats funny they started the fight the first commecial ... qwisp won but i liked qwake better, wern they the same thing?

  • It's very "Fractured Fairy Tales."
