I have no idea how well you'll be able to hear this. This is a Czech song I do habitualy. A practise run, this. From a band in the west of the country called Chinaski, I like this one (above attached)

I have to be careful with the first line. "Ta stará dobrá hra - už je okoukaná" - "This good old game is already a little worn out". If I don't stress the middle syllable (ok-OU-kaná) and allow it to flatten out as English speaking people tend to do the word literaly becomes 'o-KAK-aná - transliterating 'of sh_t' in translation. More often than not there's sniggering when I do it, ("This good old game is already of sh_t" ... ).

It's difficult to remember lyrics that are esoteric in your own language let alone a second one. I can't rattle off the last lines of the chorus like a Czech person, (there are too many specific Czech sounds too quickly in a row) - "Ačkoliv máš všechno co jsi vždycky chtěla", ("Always, you have what you want routinely " ... ).

There you are. Just to show I do put them out in Czech language, (where I can't get away with faffing the lyrics as I can in English).

A couple of weak spots on the vocals here, (particularly toward the end). The two last lines in the chorus really need a Czech person to sing them, (there are so many specific Czech sounds rattled off so quickly so close to one another). Am working to get the delivery precise

As always
- Martin

  • Look forward to your appraisal on the next one, Len. Thanks

  • Tell you what, Len. I'll have to put up another one for you before Christmas. I'll try my best. I think I need you in my audience at The Immigrant in Brno

Pomaturitní kids I teach insist I have to play them Katy Perry's 'Friday Night' next week. Live. In the classroom. Oherwise they'll probably complain to paní ředitelka they're bored. I've had to take out all the rude words and think of others to put in ... :-)

  • Pretty good job for guy who doesn´t speak Czech. I´m from Czech republic and I love your singing so much :)

  • @Lenysek

Thanks for your comment Len. Really nice of you.

I'm Australian so it's a real job singing in Czech. There's a whole run of your language's sounds in the chorus I really have to concentrate on singing it live. So - I've got a fan then ... ?
