he cant really grab the snail out of its shell without cracking the shell first, alot of Sea Snails can have a hard plate-like thing they can cover the hole in the shell with after they withdraw into the shell, they basically put a plug on the shell which is hard to remove as long as the snail keeps grip on it, i think its actually part of their body
