In which John compares and contrasts Greek civilization and the Persian Empire. Of course we're glad that Greek civilization spawned modern western civilization, right? Maybe not. From Socrates and Plato to Darius and Xerxes, John explains two of the great powers of the ancient world, all WITHOUT the use of footage from 300.

Yeah, everyone's like "omg last minute cramming!" and c'mon, I'm attempting to watch 40 videos the night before the test. A week in advance is not last minute.

"Last minute studying" doesn't take place a week before, that is well-in-advance studying.

sounds a little like the US today
either accept democracy, or we'll use the missles to teach democracy to you= strong can do whatever they want, and the weak will suffer what they must

watch all of crash course world history; he seems to hate european and western civilization in general; well, not hate them, that's too strong a word; rather, biased against them; asian, african and native american cultures seem to be much more to John's liking

I have my Part 1 exam on Civilisation of Fifth Century Athens on thursday and I've only just started studying for it. Thankyou Crash Course for making such an awesome video and reminding me why I'm willing to spend £45,000 learning about this stuff- if you look beyond the textbooks it's actually insanely interesting!

This has probably been pointed out already but, between 1:33 - 1:36, where you refer to Darius I being Cyrus I's son, is inaccurate. Darius I was Cyrus' paternal cousin, several times removed. The houses split a couple of decades before but were reunited with the marriage of Darius and Atossa (Cyrus' daughter). Similar to the houses of York and Lancaster (albeit, the latter being an illegitimate cadet branch, the Tudors).
I'm sorry for pointing this, I can imagine how irritating it must be.
