That's because people thought that Madonna was a ditz, that she wasn't supposed to be taken seriously. Look at the way people during this time seem to talk down on her.

@DanceInTheDark711 agreed! I feel the same. I'm a good fan of her but I can't stand when she says 'what was I thinking with my hair' and so on. I remember during the American Life era she was getting annoying with it.

Madonna is in control here and that wasn't Jane's presumption. Madonna knows that Jane is envious and Jane refuses to be convinced, although she does realize that her intimidation towards Madonna is not working and Madonna is throwing it right back at her with a joker's smile. This interview is classic and demonstrates just how intelligent Madonna truly is.
