Carmen is a typical Spanish name, Carmensita means "little Carmen". I suppose it's also a play on words of Kamasutra also.

it's tongue in cheek. Devendra Banhart seems to have been raised Hindu, according to some of his bio blurbs. He's half Venezuelan, half American, lived in both places.
