Ok, wasn't much of a John Wayne fan - but watching "The Alamo" from 1960 made me one (-:
This is the best quote from that film. Others already put it on YouTube - but my audio is better than theirs so i put it up (-:

You know what I hate? I hate it when people take a John Wayne post and somehow twist it into politics and the President and government and such. Save that for the Ronald Reagan quote videos or the Bill Clinton quote videos or the George Bush quote videos.....

I think family is the most important thing on Earth, and that boys and girls need both their mothers and fathers for good psychological balance. Earlier today I heard someone say that God created families way before communities, cities, and nations. I think it's so important that when you die, it's all you care about. You just think about your time with them, and your only wish will be that you had more of that. I think we should take it more seriously than we do, sadly. Good talking to you sir.

That's a great way to put it. Seems like the American dream involves a desk regardless. Having my dad was the best education a person could have. While I doubt I could ever be half the man he is, I'm still motivated to follow his example. Like you said, people aren't getting that. A mother can make a child, but it takes a father to make a man. Sure, I think people can still live not knowing their dads, but they have to learn life's lessons the hard way.

I have to agree with you, but what did you expect? Every young man is castrated at the age of 4 when they start preschool, and they are taught to keep it that way and sit at a desk for 14 years. Possibly 8 more years depending on how much education they get afterwards. Not one of those classes is about becoming a man, because it can't be taught in a classroom. Most politicians never even worked in the private sector. The very high divorce rate is the second reason. Nobody knows their father.

John Wayne was a Republican when it meant something. We can argue politics all we want, but both sides are so focused on disagreements, that they've lost sight of what is important. Give me another Theodore Roosevelt, that man transcended political parties. That president was a real man. None of these modern day politicians are real men. Sure, John McCain was a great man, but he made too many poor choices during his run.

Only reminds of the most godawful 3-hours of hoary faux-patriotism in the history of sound movies. The sole good thing about this tripe is the song, score and some battle, scenes, which were supposedly directed by John Ford.

my favorite is when he was getting on in years and he was talking about current problems of the world, he used to say....it's gettin' to be re-god-damn-diculous
