Finger Wave tutorial 1/2 (with wave clips)

I learned the basics of finger waving through this series of instructions: http://www.vividinfinity.com/fingerwave/ Which I highly recommend using along with this video.
However, I found that the waves are MUCH easier to achieve when using wave clips, and thought that the illustrations were very confusing.

This is a style that requires lots of practice to master, so get all the supplies and borrow a friend on a lazy Saturday afternoon before you attempt a finger wave style for a special event. This video was made after I'd practiced ~5 times, and the results aren't perfect, but I hope the instructions will help you get the technique down so you can try it out on your own. The first few times you do this, it might take 30-40 minutes, but you can get faster and make the set in 15, dry enough to remove the clips in another 20 or so.

This is part 1/2. There's a lot of babbling and editing, but don't worry, anything that I feel is an important instruction is coming across loud and clear.

Stay doing the very first top wave all the way around her head and then go back around the head doing the opposite wave.

@HotPhlash Thanks for the suggestion. I stopped the first top wave alongside the part because my hair model had a very pronounced part and I found it too difficult to turn the wave on such a tight radius. As I've gotten more practice, though, I can see that it creates a cleaner effect.

@howareyoumrfish They're just called "wave clips" and I got them at Sally's Beauty Supply, something like a set of 5 for $5. They also can be different sizes--some of the ones I have, I picked up at an estate sale. I'm glad you found this helpful, happy waving!

@iamDiamondCut The "lazy" way? Last I checked, finger waves were still regarded as one of the most difficult hair styling techniques to master, let alone for somebody who has little to no professional hairstyling experience. If the results look good, who cares if they used clips? This isn't the Hard Knocks School of Cosmetology, it's just a YouTube tutorial. Calm the fuck down.

There was very little definition in those waves. To get a better "defined and finished" look, those waves MUST be defined while moulding them. As Hotphlash said, work from one side of the head and work your way around to other. Practice makes perfect!

FINGERWAVES - NOT CLIP WAVES! the C shape should also extend down to the face. Hold your fingers super tight and you wont need clips. Pretty messy too... have it smooth and nice...

@AlexaML1234 excuse me, but I am a cosmetology student and I can do FINGERWAVES very well, WITHOUT CLIPS. they are called FINGERWAVES for a reason. I asked everyone I know about hair & has their CERTIFICATE in Cosmetology. I stand corrected. Clips give the fingerwave form, but they are NOT fingerwaves! These are clip waves. That's it. And this comment is hella old. Why are you still responding? I know Im right and there is nothing no one on here can tell me to convince me im wrong.

@iamDiamondCut Um, Yeah. You can use clips. She probably knows how to do it without the clips as well. You think that's very easy? No. You learn how to do it without clips when you first start to do it. TO LEARN. This girl already knows how to do it. She's allowed to do it however she wanna btw. && What I was told, It's supposed to be an S shape. & No matter how you do it, it's very very verrry hard to do. You really needa stfu. This turned out great. So who really cares how she did it.
